In April 2004 Mark was critically injured in a collision with a pickup truck when he was going to work on his bike. For further information see Google's archive of the announcement in the newsgroup by his wife Rosaura (Rosy), and many follow-up messages from friends and admirers. Rosy created a public journal chronicling Mark's recovery, but it's been reported that Mark died in May 2010.
